Persian in Cyber Space

How much longer do we have to put up with bad Cyber handwriting? Contact us if you have the answer.

It's getting better, of course. People with PC's, you might be having an easier time of it. As for we Mac people, below is an illustration of the experiences we encounter on the web. Note that I have used three different browsers to surf here, and then captured a sample image on all three browsers from one Persian page chosen at random. For the full article that this excerpt is from, click here. As you can see, some browsers work better than others. PC people, is the quality of type on your browser better than mine?

And finally, the big question is, when will the quality get to be on par with printing? In English we have the choice of several different fonts online, when will the Persian be up to speed? Anyway, here are the browser experiments:

  1. Here is the image with the "Foxfire" browser on a Mac. You may notice that the letter "ye" has two dots under (this is standard for Arabic but annoying for Persians). Also, several of the letters are smaller and darker/thicker than the other (such as fe, se, re, vAv, re-ze, nun and dAl):
  2. Here is the image with Internet Explorer on my Mac. I've been told there's nothing I can do to change this, I should just use the "Safari" browser instead:
  3. Here is the image with the "Safari" browser on a Mac. This one looks the most legible to me. But it has the same problems the foxfire browser did, (two dots under the "ye" and certain letters thicker, though not as pronounced). An additional problem with this browser appears to be the parenthesis.
  4. And finally, here is the image as typed on a graphics program on a Mac. Looks just like it would in print, except I haven't figured out how to do the "e-ye" character at the end of "nevisande-ye". Also, here notice the numbers are in Persian script as well.

Here we are, teaching you the Persian language with these lovely Word Magnets, which we have printed in a crisp, easy to read font.

  • It's important for the Persian speaking community to get wired. It's all part of the plan to get Simorq-anized.
  • So if you have links to helpful articles/sites about how to speed us all on our way to better internet functionality in Persian, please do contact us.
