Here is the BBC story on the "Tehran Street Slang...bestseller". And check out this fascinating article/review of "The Persian Dictionary of Argot", defined as "zabAn maxfi" or "hidden language." The idea is that "hidden vocabularies" are invented primarily to keep other people from understanding them. Word play and entertainment are additional reasons to invent a hidden language.

Such vocabularies are usually not written down and have a short lifespan. But if you know them, dude, you're in.
